We’ll try to let you know at least 1 week in advance of the program start date so you can plan accordingly.

The Program

How long is the program? 2017-03-31T17:21:45+00:00

The program runs for 14 weeks, culminating in a private pitch and demo session with potential investors, and an awards dinner.

What is the expected commitment? 2017-03-31T17:22:58+00:00

Starting a business is hard, and takes 100% dedicated time and effort.

You need to identify and really understand the problem to be solved, come up with a way to solve the problem, build a team, build the solution, find customers, test your solution out, make changes, test your solution out again, make changes again, find paying customers, improve your solution, raise capital, build a bigger team … you get the idea.

When you are selected to join, you and your full team are expected to devote a 100% commitment to the 14-week program.

If you want to do a program at night, on weekends, or drop in and out, then there are other programs that might better meet your needs.

I have other commitments, can I still join the program? 2017-03-31T17:23:34+00:00

Once you graduate from the program you become part of our Alumni Growth Program, which provides you with continued support from our community. You can also apply for the program again with an improved idea or a completely new idea.

How much equity do you take? 2017-03-19T13:23:56+00:00

We don’t take equity. Yes you read that right.

We are a not-for-profit, member based organisation. One of our purposes is to connect you with a network of Australian and international investors (Investor Members). Our Investor Members may offer you and your team financing opportunities at the end of the program. You are under no obligation to accept any of these offers.

Do you provide any cash or in-kind contributions? 2017-03-31T17:25:25+00:00

We don’t fund you to participate in our program.

We help motivated entrepreneurs who can bootstrap or seed fund their 14-week start-up journey. If you are not able to fund your start-up journey, then there are other programs that might better meet your needs.

We do provide you with educational materials, workshops, seminars, coaching, mentoring, networking opportunities, promotional opportunities and capital raising opportunities.

Do you provide office space? 2017-03-19T13:22:41+00:00

We don’t provide you with office space. There are a lot of low-cost, flexible options for co-working office space in and around Melbourne, and we are working with local communities in regional areas to develop options there as well. Let’s face it, that’s probably where your customers are and where you’ll be spending the majority of your time.

We’re running our inaugural program in Melbourne, Sale, Shepparton, Bendigo, and Geelong.

Our closing session – Pitching and Demo – will also take place over one weekend in Melbourne, giving you the opportunity to prepare and pitch to investors.

We’ll be running a range of face-to-face program activities in select Victorian regional centres as well as Melbourne, guided every step of the way by our online innovation management system.

Unless you are particularly keen to experience great coffee and delicious food, moving to Melbourne is entirely optional.

You may live in a regional area. Your customers probably live in a regional area. We are a regionally focused program. That’s why we’re running a range of face-to-face program activities in select Victorian regional centres as well as Melbourne.

We’re running our inaugural program in Melbourne, Sale, Shepparton, Bendigo, and Geelong. If you live in these regional centres, or can make it to these regional centres for program activities, then stay right where you are.

I don’t live in Victoria, can I still apply? 2017-03-19T17:24:44+00:00

Sure, but …

… we’re running our inaugural program in Melbourne, Sale, Shepparton, Bendigo, and Geelong.

Our opening session – Orientation & Entrepreneurship 101 – will take place over one weekend in Melbourne, giving you the opportunity to meet the other teams, partners, and mentors.

Our closing session – Pitching and Demo – will also take place over one weekend in Melbourne, giving you the opportunity to prepare and pitch to investors.

You’ll need to attend the opening and closing sessions in Melbourne, and some face-to-face sessions in either Melbourne or one of the Victorian regional centres.

We’d love to expand the program to other states and regional centres. If you can help us do that then get in touch!

You and Your Team

Do you accept individuals, or do I need a team? 2017-03-19T17:50:43+00:00

We look at each application on its merits.

Applying to work on your own start-up idea

We are passionate about helping individuals and teams who have identified a problem and taken the first steps to developing a solution that customers find valuable.

We know that teams are able to dramatically accelerate their start-up if they have multiple co-founders, however we do accept individuals if you have clearly identified a problem, developed a solution (partial or full prototype), and can demonstrate some customer traction. We can help you find co-founders and bring them on board.

Applying to work on a partner-sponsored challenge

We accept both individuals and teams with interesting skills for our partner-sponsored challenges. If you haven’t got a team we’ll help you find one or build one at the start of the challenge.

Is there a limited number of places? 2017-03-19T16:33:47+00:00

We look at each application on its merits.

We don’t place limits on the number of teams accepted into each program. The more teams, the bigger the community, and the better the start-up ecosystem.

How far along does my start-up have to be to apply? 2017-03-19T17:03:33+00:00

We look at each application on its merits.

We are passionate about helping individuals and teams who have identified a problem and taken the first steps to developing a solution that customers find valuable.

If you have clearly identified a problem, developed a solution (partial or full prototype), and can demonstrate some customer traction then you are a good candidate for our program.

Alternatively, if you have discovered or invented something you think might have potential, but are still in the early stages, then the application process will give you an idea of the things you’ll need to think about. It will help you to structure your thinking, and help us to understand if we can help you.
